Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day
This past weekend we set the clocks ahead in anticipation of Spring and Summer. This week is a big deal in Butte because its St. Patty’s Day. The pandemic, hopefully, is on a down slide and the weather looks like it will be decent so the crowds should be packing the streets uptown in celebration. We have had a relatively mild Winter but enough snow to spend a lot of days on the slopes. The snowpack is still lower than we would like so we are hoping for a wet Spring.
We started the New Year with a Winter Survival Clinic for mountain pilots sponsored by the Montana Department of Transportation /Aeronautics Division at the Sugar Loaf Lodge (https://sugarloaflodgeandcabins.com/).  The first night was spent in the classroom covering winter survival classes followed by a stay in one of their outstanding cabins. After a hearty and tasty breakfast, we moved to the edge of their property and conducted field classes on signaling, fires, and shelters. The students constructed some truly impressive shelters, and most were able to “survive” the night sleeping outside. Once again, the staff at the lodge provided a great breakfast and lots of good, hot coffee. We followed it up with a great debrief in the field and classroom.
The next few months were busy with back-to-back trips for our military clients. We spent quite a bit of time in the Big Sky and Georgetown Lake areas skiing and snowmobiling. We had a couple of epic days in the middle of the week at Discovery Ski Area with loads of fresh powder, no one on the slopes, and lots of first tracks. Randy and Rod spent five days straight on snowmobiles in the mountains above Georgetown Lake and Philipsburg. We also spent quite a bit of time on snowshoes, backcountry skiing, and rope rescue training in Butte, Fort Harrison, and Tucson.
Our Summer calendar is starting to fill up. It looks like we will be spending a lot of time on the river, horses, and rock climbing. During our shoulder season (Spring), we will be supporting some advanced medical training out of our headquarters in Butte and a team leader course in San Diego. If you are planning some training this Summer, please give us a call to see how we can support your needs.
