Pentagon's Uphill Battle

Afghan Campaign Spurs Military to Seek Remedy for Troops' Altitude Sickness
- Stephanie Simon "The Wall Street Journal"

Dr. Roach (Robert Roach, who directs the Altitude Research Center at the University of Colorado) plans to develop an Acute Mountain Sickness Prediction Kit that would be available for the military within three years.

That would be a welcome advance, said Rod Alne, an Air Force veteran who isn't connected to Mr. Roach's project. Mr. Alne's special-operations unit was dropped into high-altitude combat zones frequently, and he said he saw first-hand the impact of mountain sickness on even the fittest troops.

Senator Jon Tester Visits The Peak Inc to Observe Training

Tester had a busy day in Butte...
- Melanie Yuill "KXLF - Butte, MT"

...He also stopped by a company that trains soldiers how to move and survive in high altitude wilderness environments.

PEAK Inc. hosted the senator this morning, explaining what they do and demonstrating some of their training. They bring in soldiers from across the nation for two-week periods and take them out into the Highlands and other Southwest Montana locations for training because the environment is similar to what they may run into in Afghanistan.

PEAK officials say it has trained about 650 soldiers since opening four years ago. They're thankful they'll get to continue since the senator added a provision to his logging and wilderness bill to...

- Melanie Yuill "KXLF - Butte, MT"

Denny Rehberg was in Butte today, touring and learning about a business that brings millions of dollars to the community.

Rehberg met with Rod Alne, the owner of Peak Inc., a company that trains people how to move and survive in wilderness environments. They train many people in the military as well as some commercial businesses.

Alne says they have brought about $3.5 million into Butte since they started the company in 2005. This is from people taking the courses coming into the community and staying in local hotels, eating in local restaurants, and shopping locally...

The Peak Provides Leadership and Team Building for Retail Operations
- Lori Lee "Inside Outdoor"

Greater success requires greater thinking. Greater thinking is found when the status quo mindset is challenged and expanded. Status quo mindset can most easily expand when one leaves the status quo environment. In other words, your best employee training may not be in the office.

Few groups have team work down to a science like the U.S. military. Through special operations training they learn to communicate, listen to a leader, respect and trust one another, and ultimately perform for the good of the whole –the same things a good business needs to summit its commercial and management mountains.

The Peak, located in the broad expanses of Butte Montana and the surrounding mountains, provides specialized training for these military groups as well as corporate...
